Increase in the spend limit for contactless payments
Payment authorities around the globe are increasing the contactless spend limit to allow more payments to be made via a contactless interaction.
ADVAM has made the required changes to the ADVAM Gateway, allowing all of our customers to benefit from the increases made in each of the markets we serve. There is nothing for you to do to accept these increased limits. Once the changes are approved by your acquirer the new limits will automatically be applied.
The following changes have been made to our international markets, in line with the guidance provided by the local payment bodies.
Australia
The limit has been increased from $100 to $200 for a temporary 3 month period. ADVAM clients that accept payments from VISA, Mastercard or American Express will have this increased limit applied to their customers. This applies to payment cards only and contactless payments via mobile wallets remain unchanged. Further information can be found at AusPayNet
Ireland
The spending limit has increased from €30 to €50 as a permanent change. ADVAM clients that accept payments from VISA, Mastercard or American Express will have this increased limit applied to their customers. This applies to payment cards only and contactless payments via mobile wallets remain unchanged. Further information can be found at Banking & Payments Federation Ireland
New Zealand
The limit is being increased from $80 to $200 on a temporary basis. Please note that this will be a staggered release as not all acquiring banks have the technology in place to accept the increased limit. ADVAM is working closely with its partners and will advise once this available. Further information can be found at Payments NZ
United Kingdom
The spending limit for contactless cards will increase from £30 to £45 as a permanent change. ADVAM clients that accept payments from VISA, Mastercard or American Express will have this increased limit applied to their customers. This applies to payment cards only and contactless payments via mobile wallets still have no maximum limit. Further information can be found at UK Finance
United States
Currently no changes have been announced to the existing $100 limit for card payments via contactless technology.
